Mandalay Bay has a destination pool complex but is far from center Strip. The correct answer depends on the schedule, not the cheapest room.
🌴 North and luxury resorts: stay for the property
Wynn and Encore work when Encore Beach Club, spa and premium dining are the point. Venetian and Palazzo offer large suite-style rooms and many on-site choices. Budget groups should not book north solely for a low teaser rate, then spend the weekend paying to reach center-Strip reservations.
🤠 Downtown: compact bar hopping and different energy
Fremont Street is not a cheaper version of the Strip; it is a separate nightlife base. Circa is adults-only and built around Stadium Swim, while Downtown Grand and other properties can reduce room cost. Use Downtown when the group wants Fremont bars and one planned Strip excursion, not nightly cross-city rides.
Book the hotel around the hardest reservation: if Saturday is TAO Beach, Marquee Dayclub or Encore Beach Club, staying at or near that resort can save the group a long, hot, dress-code-sensitive transfer.

🚕 Taxi: simple and zone-priced from LAS
Harry Reid International Airport operates official taxi ranks outside Terminal 1 baggage claim near doors 1–4 and Terminal 3 Level Zero near door 52. Trips to Strip hotels use flat-rate zones; check the current airport map for the exact zone. Split by hotel and luggage, not just by friendship group.
📱 Rideshare: follow the garage signs
Uber and Lyft pickup is in the Terminal 1 parking garage on Level 2 and the Terminal 3 garage on the valet level. Share the license plate and driver before boarding. The Monorail does not serve the airport, and walking between terminals is not possible.
🚌 The Deuce helps, but time has value
The Deuce runs along the Strip and reaches Downtown. Current visitor fares are $6 for two hours and $8 for 24 hours. It is useful for flexible sightseeing; weekend traffic makes it a poor choice for a fixed dinner or ticketed show. Leave earlier than the map suggests.
👠 Strip walking is slower than it looks
Casino floors, escalators, bridges and heat turn one mapped mile into a project. Build each day in one zone, carry flat shoes and use the resort’s official taxi or rideshare pickup. Do not ask a driver to stop at an unsafe curb on Las Vegas Boulevard.

🎧 Dayclub: buy the experience deliberately
Encore Beach Club, TAO Beach and Marquee Dayclub are full nightlife venues in daylight. Artist, cover, arrival deadline and table minimum change by date. General admission is best for a mobile group; a daybed or cabana creates a base but can require a high minimum. Get the all-in terms in writing.
🛏️ A table quote has several layers
Ask whether the number is a food-and-beverage minimum or the final price. Add venue tax, service charge, gratuity, ticket fees and any host fee. Confirm guest capacity, re-entry, shade, acceptable bags, footwear and what happens if the headline artist changes.
🧘 Resort pool: better for conversation
A hotel pool or quieter adults-only pool often wins for a group with different energy levels. Confirm that every room guest can enter, how early chairs fill, whether outside food is banned and whether a reserved daybed has a minimum.
