Prague May Bank Holiday 2027: Three-Day Itinerary and Weekend Budget

Prague works best as a May bank holiday break when you stay near a useful tram or metro stop and explore one side of the river at a time, rather than spending your three days crossing the crowded Charles Bridge between disconnected bookings.

1. Prague May bank holiday: quick planning facts

UK weekends

30 April–3 May or 28–31 May 2027

Suggested stay

Three nights; Friday arrival and Monday departure

Best first-time bases

Old Town edge, New Town or Vinohrady

Planning budget

CZK 8,400–13,700 per person, excluding flights

Checked 23 October 2026. The UK May bank holidays are Monday 3 May and Monday 31 May 2027. The budget is a three-night planning model, not a hotel quote; transport prices are current references and may change before May.

2. Which May bank holiday weekend should you choose?

For the early break, arrive Friday 30 April and leave Monday 3 May. For the late break, travel Friday 28 May to Monday 31 May. Both give two full sightseeing days plus a flexible Monday, provided your flights allow it. Compare the total of flight, baggage, airport travel and three hotel nights for the same head count; a cheap late arrival can erase most of Friday.

📅 Early May: make the short break count

Czech public holidays fall on 1 and 8 May; in 2027 both are Saturdays. The UK Monday off does not mean Prague follows a British bank-holiday timetable. Check each attraction's actual opening calendar, particularly if the first weekend includes a special event or changed hours.

🌿 Late May: plan outdoor time with a rain backup

Build a river walk, Letná or Riegrovy Sady into the later weekend, but keep a museum or café alternative. Spring weather is variable, and sunshine is not a reason to buy several weather-dependent activities with strict cancellation terms.

🧳 Friday-to-Monday versus Saturday-to-Tuesday

Ask whether one extra day of annual leave reduces the complete trip cost. A different return date can change the hotel and flight combination, but do the comparison per person after baggage and transfers. Do not call a Saturday-to-Monday two-night stay a three-night budget.

3. Where to stay in Prague with friends

Put the last journey of the night on the map before choosing a hotel. Old Town is convenient for a first visit, but the most central nightlife streets can be noisy. New Town gives a useful compromise between sightseeing and transport; Vinohrady suits groups happy to use trams and metro for a more neighborhood-based weekend.

🏨 Old Town edge and Náměstí Republiky

Motel One Prague-Florentinum, on Na Poříčí, is a practical hotel to compare for the eastern edge of the centre. You can walk toward the Powder Gate and Old Town without sleeping directly on the main square. Price identical dates and room types rather than relying on a hotel's advertised starting rate.

🛏️ New Town near the river

Mosaic House Design Hotel, Odborů 4, is another concrete shortlist option, useful for river walks and New Town restaurants. Check whether your friends need twins, doubles or separate rooms: an attractive room photo does not prove a hotel can provide several twin rooms together.

🚋 Vinohrady for a local evening base

Look around Náměstí Míru or Jiřího z Poděbrad if the group values cafés, parks and an evening outside the busiest tourist streets. Keep the nearest metro or tram stop visible in the booking vote. The saving is less convincing if everyone expects taxis for every return.

4. Airport transfers and public transport

Prague Airport recommends trolleybus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín for metro A, or bus 100 to Zličín for metro B. Choose according to your hotel rather than following everyone into one queue. Regular city transport fares apply to these services; Airport Express is a separate product, not an upgrade automatically included in a city pass.

✈️ Use a connecting ticket for bus and metro

Current PID fares list a 90-minute adult ticket at CZK 46 in the app or CZK 50 on paper. That is a useful reference for an airport transfer when the full journey fits the validity, including transfers. Allow time after landing for passport control and luggage before making a dinner reservation.

🎫 A 72-hour pass may suit a three-night trip

The current adult 72-hour fare is CZK 340 in PID Lítačka or CZK 350 on paper. Validate paper tickets once on first use, or activate mobile tickets early enough to be valid before boarding. Each traveller needs a valid ticket; a phone with one activated pass does not cover six friends.

🌙 Check the late-night journey separately

The daytime metro route is not a late-night promise. Look up the actual arrival time and hotel stop in the operator planner; Prague Airport publishes night bus options. For a pre-booked transfer, confirm passengers, luggage and the waiting policy so a delayed flight does not create a second bill.

5. A three-day Prague itinerary

Use Friday as the arrival evening, then Saturday, Sunday and part of Monday as the three-day plan. Book only one main timed attraction each day. A group of eight moves more slowly than a solo traveller, particularly when leaving a restaurant, finding toilets or crossing a crowded square.

🍽️ Friday: check in, eat and get your bearings

Keep the first walk close to the hotel: Náměstí Republiky and Old Town for an eastern base, or the river and New Town for Mosaic House. Lokál Dlouhááá at Dlouhá 33 is a named Czech dinner option; reserve for the actual group size. Leave the bigger night optional for friends arriving early.

🏰 Saturday: castle side and Malá Strana

Start on the castle side before the busiest part of the day. Decide whether to buy interior tickets or focus on the neighborhood and exterior views, then descend through Malá Strana toward the river. Cross Charles Bridge once as part of that route. Return to your own neighborhood for dinner instead of adding a distant activity.

🌳 Sunday: Old Town, Letná and a relaxed evening

Walk Old Town early, then use the river and Letná as the outdoor part of the day. If rain intervenes, replace the park with a museum rather than adding another long transfer. Book one group dinner and let later drinks be optional so Monday does not become a recovery-only day.

☕ Monday: a neighborhood morning before departure

Choose coffee and a short Vinohrady or New Town walk if your flight is late enough. Leave bags with the hotel only after confirming storage. Work backward from the airport arrival time, including hotel pickup, the metro-to-bus change and time to retrieve luggage.

6. What to book, and what can stay flexible

The useful advance bookings are rooms with suitable beds, one main attraction, and a large-group dinner. Parks, neighborhood walks and much of the riverfront do not need to be locked to a clock. Keep one alternative for bad weather without paying twice for the same afternoon.

🚢 Choose a cruise by route and inclusions

Compare departure pier, duration, open versus covered seating and whether drinks or a meal are included. A short sightseeing cruise and a dinner cruise solve different problems. Check the group cancellation policy and whether splitting into smaller boats would defeat the reason for booking together.

🍺 A good food plan beats an overloaded pub list

Use Lokál for a Czech meal if it fits availability, then shortlist a second restaurant near your hotel for another evening. Give the coordinator dietary requirements before they reserve. Busy communal venues are useful for flexible lunches, but do not assume a table for ten will be waiting.

👟 Protect the walking budget

Cobblestones and hills make comfortable shoes worthwhile. Save your hotel, dinner and meeting pins offline, and agree whether friends who skip the castle interiors rejoin at lunch. Nobody needs to spend the whole day on an activity they never wanted.

7. Three-night Prague budget per person

This example assumes two adults sharing a room, three hotel nights, ordinary restaurant meals, public transport and a modest paid sightseeing programme. It uses Czech koruna throughout to avoid presenting an unstable exchange rate as a fixed price. Flights, airport travel in the UK and heavy nightlife spending are additional.

Cost itemAllowance
Hotel: three nights, two sharingCZK 4,500–7,200
Meals and drinksCZK 2,100–3,300

Attractions or cruiseCZK 800–1,500
ContingencyCZK 600–1,000
Total excluding flightsCZK 8,400–13,700

For example, a room costing CZK 3,600 per night totals CZK 10,800 for three nights, or CZK 5,400 each for two people. Check whether local accommodation charges and breakfast are included in the actual checkout price. Four friends needing four separate rooms cannot use the same per-person hotel allowance.

8. Plan the group before the January booking rush

Vote on the early or late weekend, the room-sharing arrangement and a maximum complete budget before asking one person to reserve everything. Share the same three hotel options with transport included; otherwise the group is comparing different products. Give every booking a named owner and a clear cancellation deadline.

🤝 Agree the minimum shared plan

Make the hotel, one dinner and one major activity the core trip. Cruises, clubs and extra museums can stay optional. This keeps a friend with a lower budget in the group without forcing everyone to choose the cheapest possible holiday.

📱 Keep the plan and repayment deadlines together

In FlowTrip, save the hotel shortlist, airport routes, day-by-day options and shared costs in one trip. Use votes for real decisions, then record who paid and who joins each booking. Divide a taxi among its passengers, not automatically among everyone in the chat.
