ATHX Dublin 2027: Hotels, RDS Transport and a Three-Day Itinerary

ATHX Dublin is at the RDS in Ballsbridge, so a nearby hotel can keep the athlete weekend easy while friends use DART, a local bus or a planned city walk for the rest of their Dublin trip.

1. ATHX Dublin 2027: dates, venue and entry prices

Dates

Saturday 12–Sunday 13 June 2027

Venue

RDS Dublin, Ballsbridge

Organizer location

RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin D04 AK83

Displayed entry

€150 individual; €275 per pair before checkout extras

The organizer confirms the RDS campus but does not name a specific ATHX hall on its public listing. Use the final athlete email for the hall and gate, not the RDS Arena pin alone. The listed 08:00–18:00 heat window is not an assigned personal start time.

2. Choose the competition day before the hotel nights

The official Dublin page advertises individual and pairs formats across ATHX, Pro and Lite categories. The available division, day and heat are established at checkout, not by the two-day event heading. Start with that entry, then decide whether the group needs two or three hotel nights. Friday arrival and Monday departure protect both competition days and allow a separate city outing. A Saturday athlete may prefer a Sunday flight, but a Sunday competitor should not build the return around a theoretical finish that leaves no time to change, eat or collect luggage.

🎟️ The pair price is a team total

At the displayed €275 price, an equal split is €137.50 per athlete before extras. That is €12.50 less than the €150 individual line, not a ticket costing €275 each. Give one person responsibility for both participant names and keep the confirmation available to the partner.

🏋️ Use the 2027 program and standards

ATHX publishes separate strength, endurance and MetCon X requirements for the 2027 season. Read the format you are entering and permitted-kit instructions rather than copying another event’s routine. Save the athlete briefing and arrival requirements when issued; a travel itinerary should leave enough margin to follow them.

👀 Supporters can join without matching every heat

Check spectator admission separately. Friends can share the room and evening meal while choosing how much of the event to attend. Put a simple reunion place and flexible time in the plan so the athlete does not have to coordinate everyone’s sightseeing while competing.

3. Where to stay: Ballsbridge first, city center second

For a competition-focused visit, compare Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge and Herbert Park Hotel & Park Residence before expanding the search. Both are named neighborhood options with their own RDS location guidance. They offer different buildings, room arrangements and routes to the campus, so map the eventual ATHX gate rather than judging by a general arena walking time. A city-center stay can suit friends extending the trip, but the money saved on a room should be weighed against the extra race-morning journey and separate trips when the group splits.

🏨 Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge

The hotel is on the corner of Merrion and Simmonscourt roads beside the RDS area. That is a useful starting location, not a guarantee that your ATHX entrance is the closest gate. Compare breakfast hours, twin beds, cancellation terms and the final total for the same dates before choosing it over another nearby hotel.

🛏️ Herbert Park Hotel & Park Residence

The park-side base combines access to Ballsbridge dining with a local outdoor space for a short walk. Compare a hotel room with any residence option on its actual occupancy and facilities. A kitchenette or extra space can help some groups, but it does not automatically make a larger apartment cheaper per person.

🚆 Central Dublin with a useful DART connection

A hotel near Pearse or another suitable city-center DART station can work for a wider city break. Check service on the event weekend and the walk at both ends. Temple Bar is not a useful default just because it is famous: nightlife noise and an extra morning leg may be poor value for an athlete.

4. Dublin Airport to Ballsbridge: coach or shared taxi

DUB is Dublin Airport. It is not on the DART line, so an airport-to-Ballsbridge plan needs a bus, coach or road transfer before any local rail journey. Aircoach’s current Route 702 runs from Dublin Airport toward Dalkey via Ballsbridge. Use the operator’s stop list for the exact hotel and arrival terminal, then compare the ticket and walk with an authorized taxi. Friends landing together may find a shared car practical; friends arriving several hours apart can often go independently and meet at the hotel.

🚌 Route 702 is an airport service, not a local Leap fare

Check its dated timetable, departure point and booking conditions with Aircoach. A central-city coach may leave a second journey to Ballsbridge, while a suitable 702 stop can remove that connection. The cheapest advertised ticket is useful only if the service fits the flight and actual hotel.

🚕 Price the vehicle for the real party

Use the official airport taxi arrangements or a clearly booked transfer, with passenger and bag counts specified. A small car cannot be divided among more people than it holds. General venue-page taxi estimates are not fixed June 2027 quotes, so get the actual fare or estimate for the route and time.

🧳 Put arrival details in the shared plan

Each traveler should have the hotel address, reservation name and a late-arrival fallback. Do not make the first flight wait for every delayed friend unless the group has deliberately chosen one joint transfer. A relaxed meetup after check-in is usually easier than a complicated airport rendezvous.

5. DART, local buses and finding the correct RDS gate

The RDS identifies both Lansdowne Road and Sandymount DART stations as useful approaches, with a walk into the campus area. Choose between them using the actual hall entrance, not the stadium name on a map. TFI also publishes an RDS event-travel page and a live journey planner for bus options. Route numbers can change, and a general list on an event page does not prove a Sunday early-morning service fits your check-in. A Ballsbridge hotel can make walking the simplest choice, with transport reserved for sightseeing and the airport.

🚆 A train station is not the athlete desk

Save the gate and allow time for the final walk and check-in. A service to Lansdowne Road is useful for the RDS area but is not an instruction to enter the Aviva Stadium, which is a separate venue. Keep an independent taxi option if rail works or a very early heat make the planned route impractical.

🎫 Use the right current local fare

As checked on 18 October 2026, TFI lists an adult €2 Dublin 90-minute Leap fare on eligible city services and DART/commuter rail within Zone 1. It does not cover every express or commercial airport coach. Treat it as a current reference, not a guaranteed June price; tap on and off where the operator requires it.

🅿️ Do not assume weekday parking applies at the weekend

The organizer’s general RDS parking note describes normal Monday-to-Friday operation. ATHX is on Saturday and Sunday. Drivers need event-specific parking, access and payment instructions before relying on a space, and should include hotel parking when comparing a car with a walkable stay.

6. A three-day Dublin itinerary for 11–13 June

For a compact trip, use Friday to arrive, Saturday as the competition day if that is the booked entry, and Sunday for one relaxed outing before departure. Sunday competitors should reverse the balance, keep Saturday gentle and consider a Monday flight rather than rushing the event. A three-night Friday-to-Monday version gives the group a full free day around either competition date. Dublin’s city center and Ballsbridge can support a good weekend without a rental car, but keep a rain option and avoid turning the recovery day into a long list of compulsory stops.

📆 Friday: local dinner and preparation

Check into the room, save the venue gate and choose breakfast before bed. A short Herbert Park walk can orient nearby guests without creating a tiring first evening. Friends who want central nightlife can make it optional while athletes keep an earlier return.

🏋️ Competition day: protect the arrival buffer

Use the actual heat and required check-in as fixed anchors. Supporters can choose a café or a short independent city visit around the sessions they can attend. Leave room afterward for changing and food before a shared dinner; a predicted workout duration is not a guaranteed restaurant arrival.

🌳 Free day: one city route or a coastal stop

A central walk around St Stephen’s Green and nearby streets is a compact choice. A DART outing to a coastal neighborhood is a different plan with return travel to include. Do not combine a long Howth walk, an attraction booking and an airport departure simply because all appear on a Dublin checklist.

7. Ballsbridge meals, coffee and a post-event dinner

Roly’s at 7 Ballsbridge Terrace is a named local dining option, with separate bistro, terrace and bakery information on its own site. Choose the actual space and menu you want rather than assuming one reservation covers every part of the business. The hotels’ dining options can be simpler for the pre-event evening or an early breakfast. Keep the athlete’s familiar food routine separate from the group’s larger celebration, and agree a per-person spending limit before ordering drinks and several shared dishes.

🍽️ Roly’s for a planned local gathering

Check the menu and table conditions for the real party size. A reservation close to the hotel can work better than crossing Dublin immediately after competing. Share deposits, cancellation terms and dietary requests before one organizer commits a card for the whole group.

☕ Breakfast follows the booked heat

Confirm opening times at the chosen hotel or select a suitable alternative the evening before. A leisurely café brunch for supporters should not hold up the athlete. Meet later at a named lobby or café rather than making every friend follow the same early start.

🌃 A city evening should remain optional

If the group wants Temple Bar or another central nightlife area, include the return journey and personal spending limit. Friends competing Sunday can leave earlier without changing everyone else’s plan. Split personal drinks and premium orders separately rather than assuming the whole bill must be divided equally.

8. A three-night Dublin budget before travel to Ireland

For individual entry and two people sharing a room for three nights, allow €650–1,105 per person before flights or ferries. The table is a planning model, not a live June 2027 quote. It includes a substantial hotel allowance because a cheap central headline rate is not a dependable event-weekend budget. Replace that line with the actual payable room total, then add airport/local travel, meals, an optional outing and contingency. Solo occupancy, a premium hotel, extra taxis or a longer stay need their own additions.

Per-person planning estimates; excludes travel to the destination.
Cost itemAllowance
Individual event entry€150
Three-night hotel share€270–465
Meals€110–190
Airport and local transport€35–75
Optional activity€20–65
Contingency and checkout-fee reserve€65–160
Total before destination travel€650–1,105

🛏️ Hotel share: €270–465 for the stay

This assumes a final room total of roughly €180–310 per night split between two friends. Compare the exact dates, separate beds, breakfast and cancellation conditions. An incidental card hold is a separate cash-flow question even when refundable and not part of the final cost.

🧮 Pairs and supporters need different entry lines

A pairs athlete’s equal entry share is €137.50, reducing this individual model by €12.50 before extras. A supporter uses the actual spectator ticket instead of the athlete fee. Split a room among its occupants and a taxi among its riders; separate flights and personal activities remain individual.
