FIFA World Cup 2030 Spain Itinerary: A Two-Week Football Trip

A two-week Spain World Cup trip works best as three hotel bases—Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla—with match days added only after FIFA assigns fixtures, rather than a daily race between candidate stadiums.

1. Quick facts and the first decision

Route

Madrid 5 nights → Barcelona 5 nights → Sevilla 4 nights

Total

14 nights, three hotels and two main rail transfers

Match status

Illustrative city order; 2030 fixtures and stadium allocations pending

Optional swaps

Málaga, Bilbao or Zaragoza if confirmed games justify them

FIFA has confirmed the main host countries and broad June–July 2030 window, but not this sample route’s match dates or teams. RFEF’s 2024 stadium list contains candidates and the selection process remained open in 2026. Move or remove a city when actual tickets become available.

2. Nights 1–5: Madrid as your first base

Arrive at Madrid-Barajas and keep the first day free of ticketed football. Metro Line 8 connects the airport to Nuevos Ministerios, where groups can transfer onward; verify the current fare and airport supplement before travel. For five nights, Hotel Regina by Sol is a central sightseeing base and NH Collection Madrid Gran Vía is another named option. A Nuevos Ministerios hotel is more transport-focused.

🏟️ Two different candidate stadiums

RFEF lists the Santiago Bernabéu and Metropolitano. Bernabéu is on the Line 10 corridor and Metropolitano has Line 7 access; check any station construction and final 2030 security perimeter. Do not choose one route for both grounds.

🍽️ Low-friction non-match day

Walk Plaza Mayor, Mercado de San Miguel and Retiro, then meet for dinner around La Latina or near Sol. A full non-match day lets a late-arriving friend join without losing a paid session.

🎟️ Ticket-first calendar

Assign the Madrid days to the actual ticket dates once FIFA publishes them. If the group gets no Madrid match, cut nights or use Madrid as a flight and rail hub rather than pretending the original plan still fits.

3. Travel day, then nights 6–10: Barcelona

Use a daytime high-speed train from Madrid Puerta de Atocha to Barcelona Sants. Build in station access, luggage and hotel check-in; this is not a day for a tightly timed match on arrival. Barceló Sants is directly useful for a rail-focused group, while NH Collection Barcelona Constanza sits in Les Corts near the western stadium area.

🏟️ Camp Nou candidate

TMB recommends Collblanc and Palau Reial for current Camp Nou access. Check the final 2030 gate and whether event operations modify local service.

🏟️ RCDE Stadium candidate

The stadium is in Cornellà-El Prat rather than the Gothic Quarter. The club lists Cornellà Centre on Metro L5 among approaches. Save the return station and allow a post-match crowd buffer.

🥘 Barcelona without overbooking

Keep one day for Sagrada Família, Eixample and a casual Gràcia dinner; make beach time or Montjuïc optional. Friends with different tickets can meet near Sants or a specific restaurant rather than a vague district.

4. Nights 11–14: Sevilla and the southern option

La Cartuja appears on Spain’s bid list. A Sevilla base of four nights gives the group time for the city and a candidate match if tickets land there. Compare a hotel around Santa Justa for the station with one near the historic center for evenings; the stadium is north-west of the core tourist streets and needs a separate event-day route.

🚄 Barcelona to Sevilla

Compare the available direct train and flight schedules for your exact dates, including airport transfers and luggage. Do not assume a Madrid transfer is compulsory or that a flight saves time door-to-door.

🌞 Heat changes the day

Southern Spain in June and July can be very hot. Put a long indoor break between daytime sightseeing and a late match, carry water and follow the final stadium entry rules.

🔀 When Málaga is better

If you actually hold a Málaga fixture, swap some Sevilla nights for Málaga rather than making La Rosaleda a rushed day trip. Renfe connects Madrid and Málaga, so the route can be reversed or simplified.

5. Other candidate cities worth swapping in

Spain’s bid also lists Zaragoza, Bilbao, Donostia-San Sebastián, A Coruña and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Zaragoza is on the Madrid–Barcelona rail corridor and could replace a night in either city; Bilbao and San Sebastián make a northern branch; Las Palmas requires a flight. Keep the core itinerary at three bases until ticket geography proves otherwise.

🚉 Zaragoza as a deliberate stop

Nueva Romareda is a candidate, but a confirmed match would require a proper station-to-stadium plan and luggage storage or an overnight. Do not buy a rail ticket only because the train passes through.

🌊 Basque option

San Mamés in Bilbao and Anoeta in Donostia-San Sebastián suit a north-coast alternative, not a casual addition to a packed Barcelona–Sevilla route. A one-week version could focus on Madrid plus Bilbao instead.

✈️ A Coruña and Gran Canaria

Riazor and Gran Canaria are on the bid list; their travel geometry is different from the high-speed spine. Add them only if the match is a priority and the group accepts a separate leg.

6. Match-day logistics for a group

Give one person the ticket order and another the return plan. Put the correct city, stadium, gate, kickoff and seat-holder details in a shared itinerary only when confirmed. Arrive the day before, leave a generous security buffer, then plan one easy meal after the final whistle. Avoid a non-refundable intercity departure that depends on a match ending on time.

📍 Precise reunion point

If seats differ, agree a named station exit or restaurant address and a backup contact. Large crowds can make rideshare pickup and mobile signal unreliable.

💸 Who pays what

Keep each person’s own match tickets personal unless everyone opted in. Split hotels by bed or room value, trains by actual rider and group meals by participants.

🧩 Free time is useful

Give the group an optional sightseeing choice on each non-match day. A fourteen-night schedule of compulsory activities will be brittle once ticket times change.

7. A transparent two-week budget

For fourteen nights, an illustrative €160–€280 room per night with two sharing is €1,120–€1,960 per person before taxes. Fourteen days of food at €45–€75 adds €630–€1,050. Reserve €100–€250 for the two long-distance rail legs, €70–€140 for local trips and €200–€350 contingency. The example totals €2,120–€3,750 per person before flights, tickets, insurance and optional sightseeing.

🧮 Four-person hotel example

Two rooms at €220 each for fourteen nights total €6,160, or €1,540 per person before tax. If a private bedroom or extra night is involved, calculate the split explicitly.

🎫 Ticket cost is not a fixed line yet

FIFA has not published the 2030 public ticket categories in this guide. Agree a ceiling for group-stage versus knockout matches, and do not build the total from an invented ticket minimum.

📆 Book in reversible stages

Shortlist refundable hotels first, then confirm actual match allocations, rail and flights. Write down each cancellation deadline and what happens if the team or city changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a confirmed 2030 match itinerary?

No. It is a flexible fourteen-night Spain route. Exact match cities and days must be assigned after FIFA publishes fixtures and you hold tickets.

How many cities should I visit in two weeks?

Three hotel bases—Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla—leave room for matches, transfers and rest. Swap a city when ticket geography makes another candidate better.

Can I take trains between the cities?

Madrid–Barcelona and Madrid–Sevilla have high-speed rail. Compare the exact Barcelona–Sevilla service and overall door-to-door route for your dates.

What if my team plays in Morocco or Portugal?

Rebuild the route around the real fixtures. Do not retain a full Spain itinerary and add a rushed cross-border match day.
