Where to Stay for the LA 2028 Olympics: Downtown, Inglewood or Long Beach?

The right LA 2028 hotel depends on where your actual tickets are: a Downtown room saves a group with arena and convention-center sessions time, while a stadium or Long Beach-heavy schedule can reverse that choice.

1. Quick facts and the first decision

Best all-round base

Downtown LA, if most tickets are in DTLA and Exposition Park

Best for Inglewood sessions

Stadium district or an airport-side base with a confirmed event transfer

Best for waterfront sessions

Downtown Long Beach

Big booking rule

Compare final room cost plus all cross-zone journeys

LA28 says venue entry routes and cross-zone travel details will be added closer to 2028. This guide uses confirmed venue locations and current transport, not a promise of future shuttle stops. No hotel rates below are live Games quotes.

2. Downtown LA: the default for a mixed sports week

The official DTLA Zone includes DTLA Arena, the LA Convention Center halls, Peacock Theater and Dodger Stadium. Exposition Park, with the Memorial Coliseum and Galen Center, is a separate nearby zone. A Downtown hotel works well if those places fill most of your schedule, especially when you can walk to several sessions and take the E Line toward Expo Park/USC.

๐Ÿจ Residence Inn Los Angeles L.A. LIVE

Its suites and kitchen setup suit a longer group stay, and Marriott places it by the arena and convention center campus. Check whether the room has two actual beds or a sofa arrangement, breakfast terms and final taxes. It is a convenience play, not automatically the cheapest quote.

๐Ÿจ Courtyard Los Angeles L.A. LIVE

The sister property shares the L.A. LIVE location and can work for a group that wants ordinary hotel rooms rather than extended-stay suites. Compare room-by-room prices with the Residence Inn; a lower headline rate can lose once breakfast and occupancy rules are included.

๐Ÿš‰ The station matters

A hotel near Pico or 7th Street/Metro Center simplifies an A Line Long Beach day or an E Line Exposition Park day. Map the actual walking route late at night and avoid booking solely because a listing says Downtown: the neighborhood covers more ground than one venue block.

3. Inglewood: choose it for repeated stadium and dome visits

The Inglewood Zone has 2028 Stadium at the SoFi site and Intuit Dome. LA28 lists swimming at 2028 Stadium and the venue is part of the opening ceremony plan. If those are the sessions you own, a nearby room may save several large event-day transfers. It is less convenient for a week dominated by Downtown and Long Beach.

๐ŸŸ๏ธ A named stadium-area option

Hilton lists The Anthem Los Angeles Stadium District about 0.62 mile from SoFi Stadium. Check the exact 2028 spectator entrance and walking route when they are released; distance to the building is not distance to your gate. Book refundable if your sport schedule is still uncertain.

โœˆ๏ธ Airport-side alternative

Hampton Inn & Suites LAX El Segundo and Homewood Suites Los Angeles International Airport appear in major hotel inventories around the stadium area, but both still require a transfer to the venue. They may be practical for an early flight; they are not walk-outside-and-enter-the-stadium rooms.

๐Ÿš Do not assume a direct train to the gate

The K and C Lines meet at LAX/Metro Transit Center, while Metro is planning Games Enhanced Transit Service to connect rail hubs and venues. Exact 2028 routes are not yet final. Add a realistic last-mile allowance to every hotel comparison.

4. Long Beach: a destination of its own

Long Beach has Marine Stadium, Long Beach Arena, Belmont Shore and other waterfront competition venues. It is appealing if multiple tickets are here and the group wants a calmer coastal base. The A Line links Downtown Long Beach with Downtown LA, but the journey is long enough that a late Long Beach finish should not be paired with an early Downtown booking.

โš“ Marriott Long Beach Downtown

Marriott describes this property as walkable to the waterfront and convention-center area. The central position is useful for restaurants and a rail connection. Compare the exact route to each Olympic site; Marine Stadium and Belmont Shore are farther east than the Downtown shoreline.

๐Ÿจ Hilton Long Beach

The hotel is on Ocean Boulevard in the business district, near the convention-center area. It may suit a group that wants conventional rooms and a central Long Beach meeting point. Check parking and resort-style extras on the final quote.

๐Ÿณ Residence Inn Long Beach Downtown

This waterfront property offers suites, kitchens and breakfast, helpful for a week and for different morning schedules. It is across the channel from some central attractions, so the bridge or local connection matters. Do not infer that every Long Beach sports venue is walkable from the hotel.

5. What about Santa Monica, Hollywood or Pasadena?

Santa Monica is attractive for a beach holiday, but it is a poor automatic choice if you have early Downtown, Inglewood and Long Beach sessions on consecutive days. Hollywood is a similar lifestyle compromise. Pasadena can work for Rose Bowl sessions, but it is a distinct zone and should be chosen because of tickets, not because it is famous. Use the LA28 venue map before falling in love with a postcard neighborhood.

๐Ÿ“ Score each hotel against your ticket map

Give each paid session a point. Add airport arrival and departure as one more trip each, then estimate each hotelโ€™s door-to-door time for the full set. The cheapest room can become expensive after rideshares, split arrivals, venue shuttles and missed meals.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Check the room, not just the property

For six friends, three two-bed rooms may be simpler than a large rental with vague bedding. Record actual bed types, maximum occupancy, cleaning fees, cancellation, payment date and luggage storage. A refundable booking is especially valuable while ticket availability changes.

โ™ฟ Accessibility and late returns

Ask hotels about step-free room and station access if anyone needs it. Also inspect the return route after evening sessions. A short daytime walk is not a sufficient plan for a late event finish, especially if a temporary security perimeter changes the usual street access.

6. A group cost comparison that is actually fair

Use the same assumption for every shortlist option: seven nights, three rooms for six friends. At an illustrative $220โ€“$360 per room per night, the lodging base is $4,620โ€“$7,560 before taxes and fees, or $770โ€“$1,260 per person. If the Downtown option costs $30 more per person per night than Long Beach, that is $210 per person over the stay. Compare that with the actual saved cross-zone travel, not with a single taxi fare.

๐Ÿงฎ Add the hidden lines

Hotel taxes, destination fees, parking, breakfast, local rides and cancellation risk belong in the same comparison table. LA Metro currently has fare caps of $5 daily and $18 over seven days for eligible payment methods; 2028 rules could change and Games shuttles may have separate instructions.

๐Ÿ’ธ Split fairly

Decide whether a single room, better view or private bed costs extra for the person using it. Let the group approve the allocation before a deposit is charged. One organizer should not silently finance the whole hotel until checkout.

โœ… The booking order

Choose must-see sessions, shortlist two zones, reserve a refundable hotel, then refine when ticket inventory and venue access information update. Do not buy a nonrefundable seven-night stay around a sport for which nobody has tickets.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I stay for the LA 2028 Olympics?

Stay in or near the zone where most of your ticketed sessions take place. Downtown is versatile for DTLA and Exposition Park; Inglewood and Long Beach are better for concentrated sessions there.

Is Inglewood close to the Olympic swimming venue?

The 2028 Stadium at the SoFi site is in Inglewood and is listed for swimming. Check the eventual spectator gate and Games transport before treating any hotel as walkable.

Can I stay in Long Beach and visit Downtown LA?

Yes. The Metro A Line links Downtown Long Beach and Downtown LA, but allow significant travel time and avoid tight same-day session transfers.

Should I book a hotel before tickets?

A genuinely refundable option can be useful; a nonrefundable hotel is risky until the group has its priority sessions and dates.
