NFL Rio Game 2026: Complete Travel Guide 🏈🇧🇷
The NFL’s first game in Rio de Janeiro brings one of its biggest brands to one of world sport’s most famous stadiums. The Baltimore Ravens play the Dallas Cowboys at the Maracanã on Sunday, 27 September 2026 at 5:25 p.m. local time. It follows two São Paulo games, but the Rio weekend is a different trip: beach base, metro journey to the stadium, late-afternoon kickoff and digital tickets delivered through a Brazil-specific app.
The smart plan is to stay in the South Zone, use the metro to Maracanã, keep valuables minimal and separate beach time from game-day logistics. This guide covers the exact matchup, ticket tiers and fees, where to stay, the stadium route, a safe group system and a realistic three-night budget in reais.
1. Confirmed Game Details
Matchup
Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys — Week 3
Date and kickoff
Sunday, 27 September 2026 at 5:25 p.m. Brasília time
Venue
Maracanã Stadium, Rio de Janeiro
Tickets
Digital only through Ticketmaster Brazil and the Quentro app
The ticket does not live in a normal PDF: official tickets must be activated in Quentro using the same email used to purchase them. Set up the app and transfer every ticket before the group leaves its hotel.
2. Keep the Rio Weekend Together
3. Tickets, Prices and Transfer
🎟️ Official prices range widely
Ticketmaster Brazil’s published full-price categories run from R$495 in the upper end-zone sections to R$2,720 for top categories, before the 10% online service fee. Brazil’s half-price tickets require qualifying documentation at purchase and entry; international visitors should budget the full price unless they clearly qualify.
📱 Quentro is the stadium key
Tickets become available about one month before game day and can be transferred inside Quentro. Use the purchaser’s exact email to activate the order, transfer seats to fixed travellers and keep each phone charged. Do not rely on a screenshot, foreign data roaming or one person holding four tickets at the gate.
🛡️ Use only authorised channels
The NFL and Ticketmaster identify Ticketmaster Brazil and official On Location packages as authorised sources. If buying late, check official availability first. A social-media seller offering a screen capture or asking you to bypass Quentro transfer is not offering a verifiable entry plan.
👥 The general-sale limit was four
General sale opened 9 June with a limit of four tickets per CPF/card. Larger groups may hold seats across separate orders, so record section, row, purchaser and current holder in the trip instead of assuming everyone will enter together.
4. Where to Stay
🏖️ Ipanema: easiest premium base
Ipanema gives a first-time group beach, restaurants, nightlife and Line 1/4 metro access. On game day, use the metro toward the centre and connect for Line 2 services to Rei Pelé–Maracanã. It costs more, but it reduces the need for improvised late rides.
🌊 Copacabana: widest hotel choice
Copacabana has the biggest range of hotels and active beachfront kiosks, plus several Line 1 stations. It suits groups with different room budgets. Choose a property near Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos or Cantagalo rather than judging only by beach distance.
🚇 Botafogo: transport-first value
Botafogo is a strong compromise for bars, restaurants, metro access and lower room rates than Ipanema. Line 2 services are shown through Botafogo toward Maracanã, which can simplify the game route. It lacks the classic beach-stay feeling but works very well for the actual event.
🏟️ Do not stay beside Maracanã just for the game
The stadium district is convenient for a few hours, not automatically the best three-night tourist base. Most groups gain more from South Zone restaurants, beaches and direct metro access, then travelling together to the stadium on Sunday.
Choose the hotel by metro station: save the station entrance, hotel pin and late-return fallback in advance. “Copacabana” covers a long beachfront; a cheap room far from Line 1 can add a daily rideshare tax.
5. Getting to Maracanã
🚇 Metro is the primary plan
MetrôRio lists Rei Pelé–Maracanã on Line 2. From Ipanema or Copacabana, follow the game-day route in the official app and transfer as instructed; Botafogo is already on the displayed Line 2 corridor. Leave enough time for crowd controls and do not assume a normal Sunday service pattern.
🚆 SuperVia is another stadium connection
Maracanã also has a suburban rail stop, useful for travellers coming from Central or other corridors. For a South Zone visitor, the metro is usually easier. Whichever route wins, assign one transport leader and one backup rather than letting the group split across platforms.
🚕 Rideshare is the fallback, not the gate plan
Road closures, surge pricing and vehicle restrictions near the stadium make door-to-gate rides unreliable. If somebody needs a car, use a pre-agreed drop point outside the immediate perimeter and walk the final section in a group.
6. Game-Day Timeline
11:00 Beach morning, not a major excursion
Breakfast, a short beach walk and lunch near the hotel. Do not schedule Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf and stadium entry on the same day.
13:30 Ticket and group check
Open Quentro, confirm every seat holder, charge phones, remove unnecessary valuables and check the official gate-opening update.
14:15 Leave the South Zone
Use the metro with a large buffer. The official kickoff is 17:25, but the first Rio game will create security queues and unfamiliar crowd patterns.
16:15 Be inside the stadium
Find seats, water, toilets and the postgame meeting point before pregame presentation begins. Keep the return group intact.
Use a visible group safety system: carry minimal jewellery, keep phones away when not needed, use official transport, avoid displaying cash and do not let anyone travel alone after drinking. For an emergency, Brazil’s police number is 190 and ambulance number is 192.
7. Three-Night Rio Itinerary
1️⃣ Friday: arrive and orient
Airport transfer, check-in, daylight walk around Ipanema or Copacabana, reserved dinner and an early finish. Show everyone the hotel entrance and nearest metro station.
2️⃣ Saturday: Rio headline day
Use a timed official plan for Christ the Redeemer or Sugarloaf, then beach and sunset at Arpoador. Reserve the main group dinner; do not turn the pregame night into the main party.
3️⃣ Sunday: game day
Light beach morning, early lunch, metro to Maracanã, 17:25 kickoff and a direct group return. Plan any postgame drinks near the hotel, not through a spontaneous stadium-area detour.
4️⃣ Monday: flexible departure
Book a late flight if possible. A Sunday night game plus cross-city airport transfer makes an early Monday departure fragile.
8. Weather and Stadium Entry
☀️ September is warm, but not midsummer
Expect warm days, humidity and the possibility of rain. Wear breathable clothing, use sunscreen and hydrate before entering. A late-afternoon kickoff may start hot and end after sunset, so a light layer is sensible.
👜 Wait for the event-specific bag list
NFL clear-bag rules commonly permit clear bags up to 12 × 6 × 12 inches, but the Rio event and Maracanã can publish local conditions. Use the smallest approved bag, carry required medication properly and check the NFL/Ticketmaster update immediately before travel.
9. Realistic Three-Night Budget
