Spain, Portugal and Morocco World Cup 2030 Itinerary: A Three-Country Trip in 18 Nights
You can visit Portugal, Spain and Morocco in one World Cup trip, but the workable version needs several weeks and full cross-border travel days: choose a small number of bases rather than treating three countries as three neighboring stadium districts.
1. Quick facts and the first decision
Sample route
Lisbon 4 nights → Madrid 5 → Casablanca 5 → Rabat 4
Length
18 nights, 19 calendar days, four hotel bases
Main moves
Two international travel days and one Morocco rail move
What this is
A city-first sample to rearrange around real match tickets
All three countries are confirmed main hosts. The city order below is a proposed holiday route, not a guarantee of games, teams or the final in any particular city. Future air routes, fares, ticket sales and stadium transfers must be checked when actually bookable.

2. First decide whether three countries are worth the extra travel
The attraction of this trip is variety: Portuguese city evenings, a Spanish capital stay and Moroccan rail-connected cities. The cost is two cross-border moves, more luggage days and more bookings that can conflict with a fixture change. If the group has only ten nights, two countries or even two cities are often the better decision. Eighteen nights gives the route breathing room, but it still cannot guarantee seeing a particular national team in all three countries. Decide whether the core goal is following a team, collecting different stadium experiences or enjoying a holiday with some football.
🎟️ Team first: follow the real allocation
A ticket in Porto, Barcelona or Marrakech can make this sample route the wrong route. Build around the actual city and match, then remove a base if necessary. Keep the airfare and room decisions reversible until those match dates are known; the host-country list alone does not create a ticket itinerary.
🌍 Cities first: accept another game
If friends mainly want to see the tournament atmosphere and visit all hosts, agree a set of acceptable cities and games. A different team or a less expensive match category may preserve the route. Put the maximum price and seat-splitting rule in writing before the buyer reaches checkout.
📆 Three weeks is a practical allowance
Eighteen nights occupies nineteen calendar days. Add your long-haul travel and recovery time if required. Count annual leave using the actual flight times, rather than presenting this as an eighteen-day trip that assumes instant arrivals and no time spent getting home.
3. Nights 1–4: Lisbon, starting with a compact city stay
Lisbon works as the first base if the group finds sensible arrival flights and tickets there. Day 1 is an arrival and hotel day; the next days can alternate football with Baixa, Chiado, Belém or a slow waterfront afternoon. My Story Hotel Rossio is a central shortlist, while PortoBay Liberdade offers another style around Avenida da Liberdade. Decide whether shared rooms, quiet nights or the lowest total are the priority. Do not choose a hotel solely from its distance to “the stadium,” because Lisbon has two different grounds in Portugal’s 2030 preparations.
🏟️ Pick the correct Lisbon ground
Estádio da Luz and José Alvalade need distinct plans. Current Benfica guidance names Blue Line stations Alto dos Moinhos and Colégio Militar/Luz; Lisbon Metro football guidance points to Campo Grande or Telheiras for Sporting. Use these as network context, then recheck tournament gates and services.
🛬 Arrivals do not have to be shared
Friends landing separately can reach the same hotel using individual airport instructions and a late-arrival fallback. Save the actual address and booking name. Waiting several hours at the airport for one delayed friend is not required just because the rest of the trip is shared.
🍽️ Keep the first reservation flexible
Book one group dinner only when the arrival times support it. Ask about deposits and late arrivals. Leave the following afternoon open enough for a changed game time or a friend who needs rest; a holiday schedule should not make every sightseeing ticket an expensive commitment.
4. Travel day, then nights 5–9: Madrid
Treat Lisbon–Madrid as a full transfer day and compare an actual flight with the available ground alternatives when schedules open. The itinerary does not assume a direct high-speed train between the capitals. Include the trip to Lisbon Airport, check-in, luggage, Madrid-Barajas arrival and hotel access before judging whether a short flight means a short day. Spend five nights in Madrid so the Spanish leg has room for games and the city, rather than becoming a single overnight between airports. Reverse the country order if tickets or flights make that more sensible.
🏨 Choose one Madrid base
A central Sol or Gran Vía base can work for sightseeing, while a hotel near a useful transport corridor may suit repeated stadium trips. Pick rooms from real cancellation terms and bed configurations. Avoid making everyone change hotels between two Madrid stadiums merely to save a single local journey.
🏟️ Bernabéu and Metropolitano differ
Spain’s bid list includes both grounds. Neither a fixture at one nor the final in Madrid is promised by this itinerary. Once you have a ticket, save the correct venue, gate and metro approach. A photo or hotel listing labeled “Madrid football” is not sufficient match-day information.
🌳 One full non-match day
Retiro, the central streets and a relaxed meal can make the Spain stop worthwhile even if match inventory is limited. Put a museum or stadium tour in an optional block and check availability separately. Do not expect normal tours to operate unchanged during tournament access restrictions.
5. Travel day, then nights 10–14: Casablanca
Search an actual Madrid–Casablanca flight when the date is available; this is a route idea, not a claim that a particular airline will sell the same service in 2030. Keep the arrival day free of paid football. Compare a station-area hotel with a central-city hotel, and spend the first evening settling in. The Casablanca airport website publishes rail access toward Casa Voyageurs, while ibis Casa-Voyageurs sits opposite that station. That combination can simplify luggage travel, although it does not automatically solve the stadium leg or make every evening destination walkable.
📍 Benslimane is the important distinction
SONARGES places the Grand Stade Hassan II project in Benslimane between Casablanca and Rabat. Do not interpret “Casablanca” as a promise of a short downtown transfer, a specific match or the final. Wait for the official access plan before comparing hotel convenience against a stadium journey.
🕌 A flexible city day
Use one non-match day for the mosque area, waterfront and an easy meal. Check the current visitor program if you want to enter Hassan II Mosque. Separate that guided visit from match day so security or transport changes do not jeopardize two prepaid activities.
🚐 A transfer contract should be specific
For a group vehicle, check the operator, vehicle capacity, luggage, exact pickup and the return plan after extra time or crowd delays. Ask whether the quote is per vehicle or per person and what happens if FIFA assigns your game elsewhere. Do not pay for a generic “World Cup shuttle” with no documented terms.
6. Nights 15–18: Rabat, with a rail move instead of another flight
Take a daytime train from Casa Voyageurs to Rabat Agdal and use the afternoon for check-in. ONCF’s current Al Boraq station list supports this corridor, giving the final portion of the route a different rhythm from the two international moves. Keep four Rabat nights so there is room for actual football, the Kasbah of the Udayas and a buffer before going home. Decide the departure airport before buying this last hotel: flying from Rabat is not the same as returning to Casablanca Airport, and either choice needs a properly timed final journey.
🛏️ Agdal or medina, consciously
ibis Rabat Agdal is a rail-focused shortlist. A medina property can be more atmospheric for evening walks, but check luggage access and the taxi drop-off. The station-centered and historic-center options solve different problems; compare the full travel pattern before the room cost.
🏟️ Separate rail from stadium access
Arriving at Rabat Agdal does not deliver the group to the Moulay Abdellah stadium complex. Record the local leg and return separately when official event information exists. Keep luggage at the hotel and leave time for entry procedures, rather than attempting a suitcase-heavy match directly from the platform.
🛫 A calm final night
If the group departs from Casablanca, compare an early positioning move with a tightly timed same-morning connection. A last-night airport-area stay might be worth considering when the actual flight is early. Do not hide that additional room or transfer cost inside a supposedly seamless Rabat departure.
7. Flights, ferries and borders: the options are not equivalent
The default route uses flights for Portugal–Spain and Spain–Morocco because it is designed around a small number of bases. Other combinations can work, but compare door-to-door time rather than a map line. A ferry between Spain and Morocco adds port access, check-in, border procedures and a separate onward journey. Likewise, a bus or rail combination between Iberian cities can be useful for a slower holiday without being the fastest link for a tight fixture sequence. Check passport, visa and residency requirements for every traveler before committing to the international legs.
⛴️ A ferry belongs in a southern-Spain route
It is more logical to compare a ferry when the group is already near the Strait and wants Tangier, rather than from Madrid solely to avoid flying. Confirm both terminal names. Tangier Ville and Tanger Med are not interchangeable arrivals; the latter needs its own ground transfer to the city.
🛂 Three hosts mean multiple entry checks
Portugal and Spain are in Schengen; Morocco has separate entry conditions. A permission or residence document that works for one person may not cover another nationality. Use the relevant government or consular guidance, and check passport validity rather than assuming a group booking solves immigration requirements.
🧾 Separate bookings create separate risks
A flight delay can affect a separately bought match or hotel without giving an automatic refund. Leave a buffer before the next paid game, inspect insurance coverage and keep cancellation deadlines visible. Do not imply that an airline protects a connection or football ticket bought from another seller.
8. A three-country budget with the assumptions visible
For eighteen nights with two sharing a room, a blended illustrative €150–€260 nightly room range gives €1,350–€2,340 per person. Nineteen days of food at €35–€65 adds €665–€1,235. Reserve €250–€650 for the two cross-border travel legs including baggage, €30–€80 for the Morocco rail move, €150–€300 for local and stadium transport, €100–€250 for optional activities and €300–€500 contingency. The sample total is €2,845–€5,355 per person before the flight from home and back, match tickets, accommodation taxes, insurance and any visa costs. None of these ranges is a published 2030 quote.
| Cost item | Planning range |
|---|---|
| Shared hotel, 18 nights | €1,350–€2,340 |
| Food, 19 days | €665–€1,235 |
| Two cross-border legs | €250–€650 |
| Morocco rail | €30–€80 |
| Local and stadium transport | €150–€300 |
| Optional activities | €100–€250 |
| Contingency | €300–€500 |
| Planning subtotal per person | €2,845–€5,355 |
💶 One currency for comparison, local currencies for payment
Portugal and Spain use euros; Moroccan quotes may be in dirhams. Convert actual quotes at a stated rate when comparing them with this euro model, and allow for payment-provider conversion costs. Do not claim a current exchange rate will still apply in 2030.
🧮 Four friends sharing rooms
Two rooms at a blended €200 a night over eighteen nights cost €7,200, or €1,800 each before tax. If one person joins for only the Morocco segment, split those nights by actual occupants. Tickets and individual excursions remain personal unless everyone expressly agrees to share them.
📉 The simplest cost reduction
Remove a country and one international leg before cutting every meal or choosing inconvenient hotels. Fewer moves reduce airport spending, baggage charges and the chance of needing another night. The three-country version is worthwhile when the variety or actual match tickets justify the extra travel.
9. How to keep an eighteen-night group plan manageable
Use one itinerary with the core bookings visible and keep optional activities separate. Assign one person to ticket research, one to room terms and one to transport comparisons, with a shared decision deadline. A vote should end in a clear choice or a fallback, not an endless new list of cities. Before paying, show everyone the total, the amount currently due and the worst-case non-refundable exposure. Once actual match allocations exist, review each hotel and transfer in order so a change in one city does not leave the group paying for an unusable chain.
📋 The minimum booking record
For every reservation save the supplier, address, traveler names, price, currency, payment owner, cancellation deadline and confirmation document. A screenshot in a chat is easy to lose and may omit the terms. Keep a downloadable copy of important travel details for offline use.
👥 Agree different attendance
Friends can join Portugal only or leave after Spain if the hotel and cost splits reflect that. Set clear arrival and departure records instead of making the whole group wait or pay for an absent member. A smaller core group can continue into Morocco while others fly home.
🔄 Change the route once, decisively
When tickets dictate another city, replace the affected segment and recalculate costs. Do not leave both the old plan and the new plan active. Confirm cancellations, update the shared itinerary and notify everyone of the new station or airport before the next payment is made.
Frequently asked questions
Can I visit Spain, Portugal and Morocco during the 2030 World Cup?
Yes, with enough time for international transfers. This sample uses eighteen nights and four bases, but it must be rearranged around the actual fixtures and tickets.
Is there a continuous train route for this itinerary?
This plan does not assume a through high-speed rail link between all three countries. It compares international flight legs with a separate Casablanca–Rabat rail move.
Are ferry routes a good alternative to flying?
They can suit a southern-Spain and Tangier route, provided you include port access, border procedures and the correct Moroccan terminal. They are not automatically simpler for Madrid or Casablanca.
Does €2,845–€5,355 include all travel and match tickets?
No. That planning subtotal includes the stated lodging, food, two cross-border legs, Morocco rail, local transport, activities and contingency. Home-to-trip flights, tickets, taxes, insurance and visa costs are extra.
